In My Mailbox (11)

Tuesday, July 5, 2011

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme devoted to sharing the new books we've received, borrowed, or bought. For more information, visit IMM's fantastic host, The Story Siren. You can visit other blogs that are participating in this week’s IMM here.

It's been a loooong time since my last IMM, and though I wanted to do a vlog, I thought it would be way too long with the pile-up that's been gathering on my shelves since May.

Won:
Possession by Elana Johnson won from Ruby's Reads
The Darkest Hour by Maya Banks (surprise bonus from Ruby's Reads!)
The Greyfriar by Clay Griffith and Susan Griffith won from Midnyte Reader (Signed!)
Revolution World by Katy Stauber won from My Bookish Ways
I Am J by Cris Beam won from Jess Free Falcon
Flowerbed of State by Dorothy St. James won from Armchair BEA

Bought:
Heist Society by Ally Carter
Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Falling for Hamlet by Michelle Ray
The Black Dagger Brotherhood: An Insider's Guide by J. R. Ward

I've discovered that I can't go into a bookstore and buy only one book. I can buy no books, just not one book. If I'm buying books, I have to buy at least two or it feels like a waste of a trip. During the first trip, I really knew I wanted to get Heist Society, and wandered around with my sister for like an hour before deciding to get Raised by Wolves after remembering a glowing recommendation for it from Smash Attack Reads!. During the second trip I snatched up Falling for Hamlet because I've been waiting for this book all year, and wanted to get the next BDB book to read over the weekend. They had every book except the one I needed, so decided on this Insider's Guide instead.

Received for review:
Shadowcry by Jenna Burtenshaw
Don't Stop Now by Julie Halpern
Between Here and Forever by Elizabeth Scott
Sweetly by Jackson Pearce
Sometimes It Happens by Lauren Barnholdt
Triangles by Ellen Hopkins
The Lost Angel by Javier Sierra

I got another box of ARCs from the wonderful folks at the nearby independent bookseller, The Book Stall, which was unexpected and so incredibly nice of them. I also received Triangles and The Lost Angel from Simon & Schuster/Atria Books through the Galley Alley feature after BEA, where they allowed reviewers and booksellers to request a limited number of leftover ARCs post-BEA!

Thank you to The Book Stall and Atria Books!

Borrowed from the library:
Where I Want To Be by Adele Griffin
Trickster's Choice by Tamora Pierce
Behemoth by Scott Westerfeld

As if I didn't already have enough books to read, I couldn't resist stopping at the library over the holiday weekend. For me, holiday library trips are practically a requirement. I got two other adult books - a Kathy Reichs "Bones" book and another forensic science mystery that is part of a series I hadn't heard of. Not sure if I'm going to review them or not, so I didn't take a picture. At this rate, I may not even get to the library books at all!

Somebody needs a book ban.

That's it for now. What books did you get recently?

Look at this jam packed mailbox. It is full of awesome.

Okay, I spot bare chest in there. Me likey! And OMG! The Father Mine story in the Insider's Guide just killed me. I was chocking on snot and tears forever after reading.

Enjoy, Logan. :)

Hey, Missie, was the bare chest you spotted the one on the cover of Triangles? Because I saw it too.

I'm really curious to see what you think of Sweetly because The Booksmugglers absolutely panned Jackson Pearce's first book. I think it was a DNF, so I'd be interested in another perspective on this author's writing.
This is a wonderful haul. Congrats!

Wow, great IMM. Good luck on that book ban :)

@Kim - I am looking forward to your thoughts on Life As We Knew It. I've been on the fence about reading that one.

@Missie - That's a big reason I bought the guide - the Father Mine story. Must read!

@Ruby - Dude, I think she's talking about the Maya Banks you sent me!

I haven't decided if I should read Sisters Red first or just jump into Sweetly. If anyone else has advice, let me know!

@Aylee - I know, right? I'm hopeless.

THAT is a fabulous haul! Love the JR Ward love, liked The Greyfriar and hope you do, too! I've been wanting to read I am J, so I am really interested to see what you think of that!

Adele Griffin!!!!! I'm one part excited and one part scared that you won't like it and then you'll be all like, "What was Small THINKING?!?!" Erm, I hope you like it!

And Shadowcry! Did you hear a thunk? Because that was my jaw hitting the ground. Yay for fantasies! Please tell me it's as awesome as I want it to be :)

Oh wow, you did well with contests, picking up some great ones, I'm really amped about Possession. And.... Shadowcry OMG how exciting I hope you enjoy it. Looking forward to your review.

Fun IMM to read!
I can go into a bookshop and only buy one book but I struggle with not buying any. To do that I have to close my eyes and grit my teeth and hope I don't spot any amazing deals. Usually I just avoid them altogether. Doesn't work so well when you work in a charity book shop and happen to be running out of shelf space.. maybe.. perhaps..

@Linds - I've been looking forward to I Am J since the beginning of the year. I'll definitely be sharing my thoughts.

@Kristin - I've heard such good things about Raised by Wolves. Really looking forward to that one.

@Small - I saw it in the library and thought of you so I just had to get it. Also, I have to admit I know almost nothing about Shadowcry. Color me embarrassed.

@Gina - Why does everyone know about Shadowcry except me? Guess I better read it now! :)

@Jaedia - First of all, I love your name. Second, I think you should quit your job. Heehee!
