Follow Friday and Book Blogger Hop (2)

Friday, January 7, 2011

It's Follow Friday! Hosted by the always amazing Parajunkee's View, this is a chance to meet new blogger friends and grow our networks.

This week's question is "What book(s) have you discovered lately from someone's book blog?"

Starting this blog has really plugged me in to the book industry in a big way and I have found so many books that I otherwise would never of heard of thanks to book blogs. This is especially true for debut authors, and reading someone's first book is fun for me. I love how bloggers generate excitement for new authors and how much those authors tend to interact with bloggers. So cool!

One book that I heard about through the blogosphere and am just dying to read is XVI by Julia Karr. It just came out yesterday and looks so good. I think besides being a compelling story it will deal with some important issues around the sexualization of young girls. I can't wait to read it!

Be sure to check out this week's featured blogger Stalking the Bookshelves and the rest of the participants.

Book Blogger Hop

Hosted by Crazy For Books, this blog hop is all about connecting with our fellow bloggers. Each week we discuss a book-related question and hop around to other blogs to see their answers.

This week's question is "What book influenced or changed your life? How did it influence/change you?"

A big one for me was Animal Farm by George Orwell. When I first read it, I was in 8th grade, and it affected me in profound ways. It's full of tension, conflict, and sorrow. Taken at face value, it's a story about animals, and even then it can be heartwrenching. Add in the allegory of Communism and it becomes so much more powerful. This was the first time I remember really understanding that a story can be so much deeper than you first assume and that words have power. It's still one of my favorite books.

Keep hopping and following and I hope to see you again soon!

Happy Friday, Logan!

You know, pretty much everything I read is a rec. from another blogger, so I don't think I could pinpoint just one!

I know what you mean! Entering blogging has quadrupled my TBR. :P

I think Animal Farm is a great pick. I think that was one of the first books I read too where the plot had one straight forward understanding and then another, hidden, message.

@Melissa - I know! I had a hard time with that question. Almost every book I plan to read this year came from a blog rec.

@Khadija - Welcome! You've got a great blog!

@Emma - Yes, emphasis on WE! ;)

@Small Review - I don't know how I'm going to ever read all of these, but I'm going to die trying. LOL

@Tribute Books - Thanks for stopping by!

Wow, Animal Farm! I haven't read that for years. Perhaps it's time I dug it out again.

Stopping by from the Hop! I have to say, I read Animal Farm only once, but I really like 1984 by Orwell (completely wore out my original old paperback). :)

Hi,
Thanks for following! I am following you back. Glad you like the Rookie Book Blogger Journey story. They have been some of my favorite things to write. Was so embarrassing but totally funny. I liked your review of Delirium. I just finished that book and I LOVED it to pieces!

This will probably come of something as a surprise but the book that changed/influenced my life (more than any other) is a non-fiction book. I know we all focus on novels and the fanciful fiction we love to read but The Four Work Week is the book that gets all the credit. I know the title sounds fictional but it really isn’t. Hop over to my blog and find out why – http://www.howardsherman.net

Happy Book Blogger Hop Day!

Here, here on XVI - I can't WAIT to read that one. This is my first time here - great blog and new follow!

Also, be sure to check out my giveway for Raw Blue by Kirsty Eagar - it's open to U.S. and Canada. Raw Blue can't be bought here in the States, so it's a great giveaway!

Hi, Logan!
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog!
+ New follower here!

I know what you mean about XVI. It looks so deliciously good. Hope I get to see for myself soon.

And I've never read Animal Farm, but I love this line "a story can be so much deeper than you first assume and that words have power". How true that is...

Animal Farm always makes me think of the bus I was on when I read it. I don't have a single book to point to. Come by and see why.
